Got an Oiled Air Filter? Great choice. Now, let's make sure you know how to keep it performing at its best. Here's a quick and dirty guide on when and how to re-oil your cold air intake filter.

When to Re-Oil

You don't need to re-oil your filter every time you glance under the hood. Here are some signs it's time to give it some attention:

• Mileage: Generally, you'll want to re-oil your filter every 30,000 to 50,000 miles, depending on driving conditions.
• Visual Check: If the filter looks dirty or has lost its original color, it's time for a clean and re-oil.
• Reduced Performance: If you notice a drop in performance or fuel efficiency, it might be due for a re-oil.

How to Re-Oil

Follow these steps to keep your Oiled Air Filter in top shape:

1. Remove the Filter: Carefully detach the filter from your cold air intake system.
2. Clean the Filter: Use a filter cleaner solution. Spray it generously on the filter, let it soak for about 10 minutes, then rinse it off with cool water. Always rinse from the clean side to the dirty side to avoid pushing debris further into the filter.
3. Dry the Filter: Allow the filter to air dry completely. Do not use compressed air or heat sources, as they can damage the filter material.
4. Apply Oil: Once the filter is dry, apply the air filter oil. Use an even, light coating on each pleat. If you're using a spray, hold it about 3 inches away from the filter. If you're using a squeeze bottle, apply a thin bead along each pleat. Let the oil wick for about 20 minutes, then check for any areas that need additional oil.
5. Reinstall the Filter: Once the oil has fully soaked in and the filter is evenly colored, reinstall it into your cold air intake system.

Following these steps ensures your intake air filter is always in top-notch condition, delivering maximum airflow and filtration. Keep an eye on your filter, which will keep your engine running smoothly.
